Tour Details:

Day 1: We travel to Þjórsárdalur valley, stopping at Hjálparfoss waterfall, Þjóðveldisbær viking house and Háifoss waterfall. On we go to the powerful Hekla volcano, valley of Dómadalur and by the explosion crater Ljótipollur, before reaching Landmannalaugar. At Landmannalaugar, we go for a short hike before we relax and bathe in the warm natural pond next to a lava field. From Landmannalaugar we drive through the beautiful glacier valleys to Eldgjá,” the fire canyon” This area has the two largest lava fields which have flowed in historic times. We end the day in the beautiful canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur

Day 2: On this day continue east and cross Skeidarársandur, a vast tract of black sand formed by volcano eruptions and powerful floods in glacial rivers. In Skaftafell National Park, a beautiful alpine region set against the glacier Öræfajökull, with Iceland’s highest peak Hvannadalshnjúkur. We take a hike to the Svartifoss waterfall with its impressive basalt pillars and after a short drive another hike to glacier Svínafellsjökull. From Skaftafell we head for the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier where we will find the clear waters and shimmering icebergs of the Jökulsarlón glacial lagoon. A boat trip in the glacier lagoon will top the day before we return to the hotel.

 

Day 3: On this day we head west to Vík where we will see the beautiful needles Reynisdrangar out at sea as unique basalt columns/pillars in the sea cliffs ashore. The day continues with a visit to Dyrhólaey, a spectacular arch-shaped rock mass, the famous Icelandic black beaches, and the stunning waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss.On this day we can also visit Sólheimajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers.We can add another day and explore the Lagagígar volcano craters that created the second largest lava flow in historic time in the volcano eruption in the year 1783.
